A Lee County volunteer center is open at Trinity United Church in Opelika, AL. If you would like to volunteer to help the local residents, please contact Chandler Williams with the United Way of Lee County at 334-750-8174 or chandler@unitedwayofleecounty.com. The center has requested gift cards from Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart so that these can be distributed to families as they apply for assistance. Our United Methodist Disaster Relief warehouse is looking for volunteers to assist with sorting and packing shipments to the area as well. Questions about how you can help? Contact Sherri Smith at sherrismith@helenaumc.org or call the church office.

2018 marks the ninth year that Helena UMC has sponsored our Festival of Three Kings project -- where church members buy Christmas gifts for the foster children in Shelby County DHR ... plus the church holds a morning of games, Santa visits and more for the foster children each December.

It's one of our favorite mission projects each year!

Faith Promise 2017:

Backpack Buddies  Throughout the school year we partner with Helena Elementary and Helena Middle to provide  nutritious, self serve food to those children who do not have enough to eat on the weekends.  Opportunities to assist with shopping and packing occur throughout the year.

God's Cupboard - monthly
We provide non-perishable food items to assist three local food pantries and deliver to them once a month. So bring a jar of peanut butter or a box of cereal the next time you come to church. You may drop off your donations in the wooden box in the hallway next to the fellowship hall.

Firehouse Shelter - monthly
Can you serve a meal with a smile and a word of encouragement? If so, you could join us on the first Thursday of each month when we serve dinner at the downtown men's shelter.

Knitting Group & Plarn Ministry
This group meets every Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in room 120. The group prays over each shawl as it is made. The group is also making the plarn mats for the homeless. The shawls are available in the wooden box located in the narthex if you know of someone in need of prayer.

Ronald McDonald House
Join us as we provide a meal and game or craft for the families who are staying at the house while their child is undergoing treatment at Children's Hospital.
Next opportunity to serve- TBD.

Soldier Care Packages - monthly
Each month a care package is shipped overseas to those serving in our military. Items that are specifically requested would be: powder laundry detergent, dryer sheets, protein bars, , body wash and deodorant, feminine body wash and shampoo. You may drop off your donations in the hallway located next to the fellowship hall.

The WellHouse
We serve at this shelter on a quaterly basis by providing a craft or activity for women who are victims of sex trafficking. For more information on this ministry, contact Sherri Smith.
